Are same day loans safe? How to check an offer
Updated November 7, 2026
Are same day loans safe? Some are legitimate loans, some are very expensive, and some are scams. Speed by itself proves nothing either way. The safe approach is to judge the offer rather than the promise: a real lender reviews you before offering credit, shows you the full cost and never asks you to pay before you receive the money.
FirstCashAdvances is not a lender. We cannot promise an offer or a same day deposit. We pass requests to lenders in our network, and you should check any offer you receive using the steps below.
What are the warning signs of a loan scam?
The Federal Trade Commission describes advance fee loan scams, where someone promises a loan and takes your money first. These are the signs to watch for:
- A promise before you apply. The FTC says legitimate lenders check your credit before making an offer, and will not promise or guarantee a loan before you apply.
- A fee before the money. The FTC calls any upfront fee a lender wants before granting the loan a cue to walk away. Be especially careful if it is called insurance, processing or paperwork.
- A fee that "secures" approval. Real lenders may charge an application or appraisal fee, but the FTC says nobody legitimate will tell you that paying a fee guarantees a loan.
- An unexpected phone call. The FTC says telemarketers cannot legally promise you a loan and ask you to pay before you get it.

What same day loans are legit?
A legitimate offer has a few features you can check yourself. None of them proves a loan is a good deal, but all of them should be present before you consider it.
| Check | A sound offer | A warning sign |
|---|---|---|
| Who is lending | A named company you can look up | A first name, a mobile number, or no company at all |
| Credit review | Your details are checked first | Approval is promised before you apply |
| Cost | APR, fees and total shown in writing | Only a weekly payment is mentioned |
| Payment | Fees come out of the loan or come due later | Gift cards, wire transfer or crypto, up front |
| Pressure | You have time to read it | The offer "ends today" |
How do you check a lender?
Start with your state. Most states have a financial regulator that licenses or lists lenders, and many have an online lookup. Search for your state's department of financial regulation or banking department, and use the government site rather than a link in an email or text.
Then read the actual agreement. The page you are reading is not an agreement, and neither is an email. A lender's loan agreement is what sets your rate, fees and due dates, and you can walk away before you sign it.
Can a safe loan still be a bad idea?
Yes. A real payday loan can still cost a great deal. The FTC's example is a fee of $15 per $100 borrowed, which equals an APR of 391 percent on a two week loan. So safe and affordable are separate questions. Our guide to how cash advance fees work explains what to compare, and cash advance vs payday loan sets out the options side by side.

What should you do if you think an offer is a scam?
Stop replying and do not send money or card details. If you already shared bank details, call your bank right away and ask about protecting your account. You can report the offer to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov and to your state attorney general.
If someone contacts you claiming to be us and asks for a fee, it is not us. We never charge you for sending a request, and we never ask you to pay to see an offer. Write to info@firstcashadvances.com if you are unsure.
