How long do cash advances take? What sets the timing
Updated November 7, 2026
How long a cash advance takes depends on its type. A credit card cash advance at an ATM can put money in your hand on the spot, because no new loan is being approved. A loan from a lender takes longer: through this service, funds can arrive as soon as the next business day, if you are approved and accept. Some requests take longer, and some receive no offer.
FirstCashAdvances is not a lender, so we do not control timing. This guide explains where the time goes, so you can plan around it.
How long does each type usually take?
| Type | What decides the timing | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Credit card cash advance | Your available cash limit and access to an ATM or branch | Your card's cash advance limit and fees |
| Paycheck app advance | The app's standard or express option | Whether fast delivery costs extra |
| Loan from a lender | The lender's review, then your bank's processing | The funding date stated in the agreement |
| Bank or credit union loan | Membership and the institution's own review | Whether you are already a member |
These are general patterns, not promises, and each company sets its own rules.
Where does the time go on a loan request?
There are four stages, and only the first is in your hands.
- You send the request. You fill in the form with your amount, contact, income and bank details.
- A lender reviews it. A lender in our network looks at your details and may check your credit. Approval is up to that lender.
- You read the offer. Take the time you need here. Check the APR, fees, due dates and total. Slow reading is cheaper than a fast mistake.
- The money moves. If you accept, the lender sends the funds, and your bank posts them according to its own schedule.
What can slow it down?
- The day and time you ask. Bank transfers often run on business days, so a late Friday request may not move until the following week. Bank holidays have the same effect.
- Details that do not match. A mistyped account number or a name that differs from your bank's records can delay or stop a deposit.
- Extra checks. A lender may ask for proof of income or identity before it finishes the review.
- Your bank. Banks differ in how quickly they post incoming deposits.
Can you get a loan the same day?
Sometimes money does move quickly, but anyone promising a same day deposit before reviewing you is promising something they cannot know. The Federal Trade Commission warns that legitimate lenders will not promise or guarantee a loan before you apply. Our guide to whether same day loans are safe explains how to tell the difference.

What if the bill is due before the money can arrive?
Call the company you owe before the due date. The FTC lists asking creditors for more time among the first steps to try, and it costs nothing to ask. Say what you can pay and when. Ask whether a late fee can be waived, and get any new date in writing. It may buy you the time you need, and you may not have to borrow at all.

Is faster always better?
Not always. When a bill is pressing, the fastest route can feel like the only route, and that is when people skip the fine print. A lender that gives you time to read is doing you a favor. If two offers differ by a day but one costs much less in total, the slower one may leave you with more money by your next payday.
How can you avoid delays?
- Have your bank routing and account numbers in front of you.
- Use the name that appears on your bank account.
- Use an email and phone number you check, so you see any lender's questions.
- Ask when the lender expects to send funds, and read that date in the agreement.
Questions people ask
Can I get a loan the same day?
Possibly, but no one can promise it before a lender has reviewed you. Through this service, if you are approved and accept an offer, funds can arrive as soon as the next business day. Your lender and your bank decide the actual timing.
Do loans fund on weekends?
It depends on the lender and your bank. Many deposits move on business days, so a request sent on a Friday night or before a bank holiday may not arrive until the next working days. Ask the lender for its funding schedule.
